The quiet Greek island of Alonnisos is known for the largest protected marine area in Europe, the National Marine Park of Alonnisos Northern Sporades in the Aegean sea, where lives the Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monachus monachus), which is on the verge of extinction.

Reasons to visit Alonnisos based on visitors reviews:

"Nature is the king. Alonissos remains one of the least known destinations that have maintained their picturesque layout and distinctive quality through the years." Source: www.greeka.com

"Alonissos is a beautiful island with very few tourists. Although it is hard to get to Alonissos since it does not have an airport, it is worth the commute. The island is very quaint and charming. The restaurants offered excellent dishes, much better than what Santorini offered as I remembered." Source: Review from Tripadvisor member trang2010

"A peaceful and majestic holiday island. If you seek peaceful, tranquil and majestic place with the feeling of original Greek life, “Greece from yesterday” then Alonissos is hardly to beat . . . for me maybe a most precious jewel from Greek islands. Matej" Source: www.greekisland.co.uk
